This page shows a stop frame animation puppet, produced as a pseudo project for Andre Masters at 'All Hand Made Modelmaking' as part of my University studies.

The stop frame animation puppet was designed and conceptualised by myself and was inspired by Andre Masters' 'Eggmatic'. The character was based largely around the industrial revolution. Also elements were taken from, 1950's retro modelling, such as 'The Iron Giant', Stevenson rocket, Jules Vern, H.G. Wells (War of the Worlds) and creative styles such as 'Steam Punk' and other Victorian future fantasy creative styles.

I made the robot using a variety of hand tools and skills. The tanks on the robots back were shaped out of copper and silver soldered along with rivets to hold the elements in place. The blue arm, represents his light source and the other arm is a turned fire hose, which are both supported by machined and cast rubber flexible arms. The robot also models small gauges which represent his eyes and the wheels also provide a practical purpose.

The robot is full animatable. All wheels rotate in three directions with the use of ball and socket joints. The arms and the eyes all rotate with the use of ball and socket joints.

Below is a  fully animated short film of the stop frame puppet in action to give you an indication of what it is capable of achieving.
